After going live with the FaceBook and website a couple weeks back, I had several people I attended high school with reach out to me. One was living in a recovery residence near Charleston. He wanted me to come by and share with some people about what I am doing so stopped by for an afternoon meeting.
I arrived that afternoon to find a house with a volleyball net and ashtrays on the porch, and immediately felt a connection to my own past. I stepped in to find a mix of women and men, young and old, having a 12-step meeting. Everyone stopped and looked at me, and they just turned the floor over. I gave my story of what it was like and what it is like now. I shared about returning back to school and how scary that can be. I told them about the Center for Addiction Recovery and learned that there is no such formal form of support on college campuses in the Charleston area, which is really unfortunate. Just another reminder of how blessed I really am.
