I woke up early this morning (4:30am) to get all my things together before heading out. I needed to arrive in Las Cruces from Deming at 11:00 am and needed to budget time for the possible flat tire I might get. I’ve already had 5! I was the first in line for the breakfast bar which was exceptionally good. I really found that I can justify spending a little more at places with a breakfast bar because I usually will eat first thing at 6am then again at 9:30am when it closes. I am always hungry!
I set out and was relieved to find that I had a strong tailwind, as projected. I was sailing through at speeds of 25 mph plus! When I arrived to Las Cruces I was again surprised that I had a nice downhill decent into the city. The overlook of the city was beautiful and I did some filming to capture it. It was 10:45 when I rolled up onto NMSU campus and found the Wellness Fair. Within 10 minutes I was onstage telling a brief history of my story and what I was doing with R4R. This was a different crowd than I was used to addressing and being on a microphone I was a little nervous but I feel I did a decent job for just riding 60 miles at least!
Afterwards, several people needed to talk to me. Some were dealing with family members that had issues and a few had some that were being released from prison and were asking about halfway houses. I was grateful to be able to give them some suggestions and numbers. I was very grateful to “Bell” at Families and Youth Inc. for arranging me to speak and was able to give her some information on CRCs.
From there we went to check into our hotel and again were pleasantly surprised. Jessica from Holiday Inn Deming had gotten us an incredible deal at another hotel that was even nicer than before.
I went out to pick up dinner from my friends at OG Las Cruces and was able to watch the basketball games and relax. Watching Kentucky made me think of my good friend Josh who is a diehard fan, and was with me at Louies House, and I was starting to miss my friends and family some but knew that I was well on my way with 2 weeks down!
