Today I set out early to Van Horn. I believed that I found a shortcut using the bicycle feature on Google Maps that would take out 10 miles or so – leaving me with only 110 to cover for the day. 25 miles into the ride I was led onto a dirt trail and realized in horror that I had been led to a series of “Mountain Biking” trails that I was not equipped to handle. I had just been led 25 miles out of the way which would require me to back track another 25 and then pedal the 120 – leaving me with 170 miles to cover with a headwind.
This sadly was not going to happen, and I as I turned around to ride back to the Sebby’s, my phone case broke, resulting in me being nearly run over for a second time, and then my tire went flat – the 2nd one of the day! I was extremely frustrated as I needed to keep my schedule, but knew the next day the winds were going to turn and that I would have to take the planned route – I had to use the “tools for living” and “start my day over”. The Sebbys were happy to host us another night, and Heather cooked us a huge plate of spaghetti that I wolfed down with their awesome dog Chico by my side. Tomorrow hopefully would be a better day.
