Today I slept in and I needed it after a few restless nights. I spent the morning getting together some of the things I needed for school which was starting three days after my arrival in Charleston SC. It was hard to believe that things were coming to an end and a new adventure was to soon begin!
In the afternoon, Josh helped me put some new fenders on my bike as rain was predicted the following day, and mine had broken off miles ago. A year ago, when I went out for my first ride I got a flat tire. It was Josh who came and got me and helped me change it - I thought it was cool to see how much has happened in a year and reflected on that. We went and got some coffee and he showed me more around Albany, then we headed to Graceway for me to speak.
Debbie Mazur had arranged for a men’s halfway house in town to come over and cook out before the talk. I again ate probably too much, and got a chance to talk with the girls at Graceway and the guys who came out. Graceway was in an old historic house in downtown Albany and we wrapped up eating with a Ride4Recovery cake on the porch. A couple of guys had guitars and we strummed for a bit before I spoke. We then managed to snap an awesome picture seconds before it started to pour down rain. Good timing!
I spoke for about an hour and stayed after to speak with some of the guys and girls one on one. I always enjoy it when people approach me after with questions and I talked with one of the guys for a while whom enjoyed cycling before addiction had taken away everything. We really hit it off and I gave him my number and email and told him to look me up when he is out out of treatment. After the talk, we headed home in the car in the rain which I hoped would let up the next day.
