I spent the entire morning at the hotel on the computer getting my things together for school. I was very lucky and fortunate to have the week to stay at the Holiday Inn in Statesboro for free. Jack Forstrom, the manager had been working with me the entire trip to get discounts at places I stayed and I was very glad to finally get the opportunity to meet him!
I went to Olive Garden for lunch, which was a special visit. Rob Hane, the general manager there had arranged for me to eat at 22 of their locations along my ride, which I much appreciated! We had lunch together and I told him stories of the ride. We had been fast friends when I worked for him as we both loved running. His father had been sober for 27 years and he understood the issues and challenges that people with addiction face. We finished lunch and his staff presented a custom made Ride4Recovery banner and incredibly detailed cake!
That night I spoke at a meeting where I first got sober. It was surreal to think back to 6 years ago and look at my life in Statesboro and my life today. I was so grateful to be able to share with the guys and girls at this meeting that I had sat in their exact chairs and did the things suggested to get the life I had today. Statesboro will always hold a special place in my heart and it felt like I was home.
